Nine Simple Steps To Easy Weight Loss

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Copyright © 2012 Jim Belden

Let’s face it. Losing weight poses as a significant challenge to most people. It requires a diligent commitment and a lot of self-discipline. There are ways to make losing weight easier and to set yourself up for success instead of repeated disappointments. Here are nine simple ways to better arm yourself in the war against weight and put your goals within reach.

1. Rid your home of all unhealthy and counterproductive foods. You know which ones they are; you probably felt guilty when you purchased them. Dispose of anything like chips, candy, kids cereal or other foods that you will be tempted to indulge in at one point or another. Foods high in sodium, calories and sugar should be the first to hit the trash. You might be interested in keeping a running total of the money you have spent on unhealthy, fattening junk foods as you clean out your refrigerator and pantry. These foods are bad for you in more ways than one.

2. Be an all-around smart shopper. You of course want to stay within the realm of your financial budget, but start making a habit out of reading all the labels on the foods you buy. Gear your spending habits toward high quality and natural ingredients. Try spending more time in the produce aisle than anywhere else. Don’t just plan healthy meals to lose weight, but include all snacks and beverages. Analyze what you buy until you are well practiced in buying the foods that will work with your body and weight loss efforts.

3. Always drink at least one glass of water before every meal. This is a healthy habit for anyone, and those trying to lose weight will find it helps to fill them up long before the end of a meal. Try a glass of water with lemon or other flavoring after eating to aid in digestion and keep you from being tempted by dangerous desserts.

4. Whenever possible, enjoy meals at a relaxed pace. This allows your body to know when you are full before you pass that point, and it is also much better for the digestive process. Eating slowly also gives you some stress-free time in your day, which is a vital aspect of any healthy diet. When you eat on the run or in a hurry, you simply do not put thought into what you are eating or how much of it.

5. One of the smartest things anyone trying to lose weight can do is to cut soda out of their diet. Do not pick it up at a grocery store in bulk or convenience store in single servings. Avoid buying soda from vending machines at work or ordering it in a restaurant. Put plainly, soda is pure calories and sugar and completely unnecessary to begin with. If you are serious about losing weight, you need to seriously reconsider your relationship with soda, including diet soda.

6. Sleep well and for the recommended number of hours. Quality sleep is vital to your physical and mental restoration. When you are overtired you tend to slack off, eat poorly and avoid physical activity. Prepare yourself for a successful day of dieting by getting a good night’s sleep.

7. Have a support network and include other people who are trying to lose weight. Call one of them when you feel inclined to give in or give up. Any friend who will offer words of encouragement when you need it will do. If possible, partner with a fellow dieter and challenge and motivate each other. Supportive friends can make a big difference in your successful weight loss.

8. Enjoy healthy, low calorie snacks that will give you energy throughout your day. Good snacks will keep you away from the evil ones and provide your body with extra oomph so that you will chose the stairs over the elevator, or park your car far from a store entrance so that you can walk awhile. Smart snacking will not just reduce your daily total of calories, but will help you function better, and that will work wonders in a number of ways.

9. Complement every meal you have with a walk. A short stroll around the block, campus or building you work in should suffice. It will help work off a few calories and boost your energy and the confidence you have in your weight loss abilities. After each meal, you should be able to look back with satisfaction at what you ate, and after each walk you will feel stronger in your pursuit of a healthier and thinner self.

Follow these nine simple steps on a regular basis to make weight loss an achievable goal for you. If you have experienced weight loss disappointments in the past, it’s time to figure out where you are making mistakes and set yourself on a healthier, leaner course. Incorporate these tips into your weight loss plan, and you will see positive results. You will look and feel better, be much healthier and have a lot of reasons to be very proud of yourself.

Insider Tips On Weight Loss and Keeping Fit!

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

By Gladys Alvarez

In the past articles I have been talking about weight loss and keeping fit. I have been telling you several things. Among them, that you must want to lose the weight for yourself. Not for your boyfriend, husband, parent or anyone else. You have to want to do it for no one else, but you! When you have been on this road several times, it is because you have been trying to overcome some common road blocks.

These are some of them:

You read about all the failure rates, about how 95 percent of the people who have lost weight, tend to gain the weight back and then some, how it just doesn’t last very long. And the reality is that yes, in a lot of cases that happens, but, approximately twenty-five percent of those who lose the weight, keep it off for at least three years or more. There had to be a reason for that and a common thread.

Let me tell you about those common threads:

They had faith in themselves. They believed they could lose the weight and although they might have been on this road several times before, they just did not give up. After a while of repeating the yoyo pattern, they got tired of it and at that point decided to take control of their situation.

The majority of those who were able to keep their weight off, exercised regularly without becoming fanatics about it. They simple found a way to include the exercise that worked for them; like walking, which is one of the most recommended, into their daily routine, whatever that might be.

They think in a positive way, and feed their brains positive thoughts even when they overindulge. Rather than punishing themselves by eating more and more, they forgive themselves and tell themselves..I overdid it that time, but I’ll be extra careful the rest of the day.

Another difficulty is getting the proper support from those around you. They don’t understand what you are trying to do, and therefore, constantly ask you to..”try this”, or “a little taste is not going to kill you”, and so forth, you know the pattern. You have to stay strong, make them understand that losing the weight is important to you and ask for their support.

This one is what I consider at the top of the list. We must be willing to learn new ways of eating. We must learn to eat low fat foods as a way of life. We must learn to enjoy fruits, vegetables and grains. Our ancestors did not know of fats, fried foods or processed anything. They had a diet of grains, fruits, legumes and vegetables. The people in countries that maintain this habit, you have read about them, live into their hundreds and in pretty good health, especially mental health.

As I said at the beginning, you lose the weight for yourself not for anyone else. They enjoy life. A number of those who are successful today, used to take care of others and neglected themselves, food being their only satisfaction and companion. They have overcome that, and although they still take care of others they have learned to take care of themselves also.

Do not give up!

Nutrition and Lifestyle Changes That Will Help You Attain and Maintain Your Ideal Weight

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

By Gladys Alvarez

Attaining and maintaining an ideal weight is a lifelong challenge, yet today there are many weight loss programs being advertised that encourage us to “lose weight fast”.

The fact of the matter is, losing weight fast is a very bad thing! When you lose weight fast, you put a lot of stress on your heart, you feel deprived, and you set yourself up to gain weight fast as soon as you stop losing weight fast.

Instead of losing weight fast, it is far better to focus on gaining good health steadily and continuing to do so on an ongoing basis. When you shift your focus to this easily attainable long-term goal, it will be much easier to respond appropriately to temptation and live your daily life without inappropriate food guilt. Here are some nutrition and lifestyle changes that will set you on the path to lifelong wellness.

The first thing you should do when thinking about attaining and maintaining your ideal level of health and wellness is to establish goals that you can achieve. For example, if you currently drink three sodas a day, set yourself a goal of substituting pure filtered water for two of them. This is an attainable goal that will reap big benefits in terms of health, well-being, fitness and weight loss. Be sure to drink plenty of pure water to stay hydrated and satisfied all day long.

Avoid setting absurd and unattainable goals, such as following a harshly restrictive low calorie diet. This is simply punitive and unhealthy. There is no reason why you should stay motivated to follow an unpleasant diet, and you surely won’t, so don’t waste your time with it. Instead, provide yourself with a healthful diet consisting of ample amounts of nourishing whole foods. Remember that by eating several mini-meals a day rather than three large ones, you will be far less likely to feel hungry. Snack freely on fresh fruits and vegetables and be sure that all of your foods are high quality, healthful and delicious.

While the greater part of your health and wellness diet should be fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and high quality protein, you should not deny yourself things you truly enjoy. Having an occasional small bag of chips or a cookie is not going to destroy your weight loss plan or your health. Commit yourself to making truly healthful choices 95% of the time, and allow yourself to have some of your favorite foods occasionally. What you will find over time is that your body will make a shift to enjoying healthful choices more, and you won’t need to worry about overindulging in non-healthful choices.

When you decide you are ready to make nutrition and lifestyle changes that will help you attain and maintain your ideal weight and wellness, take a tour of your kitchen. If you have a lot of junk food, it would be a good idea to get rid of it. Once it is gone, set yourself the goal of not replacing it. Be sure that your kitchen is filled with healthful nutritious choices. Have your occasional chips and soda when you are out at a movie, on a picnic or visiting with your family.

Making the nutrition and lifestyle changes you need to be slim, healthy and strong is a doable, attainable lifelong goal. By setting up your home and your lifestyle in such a way that it is easy and enjoyable for you to make solid, healthful choices on a regular basis, you are paving the way to lasting fitness.

Easy Weight Loss Tips to Jump-Start Your Weight Loss

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

By Gladys Alvarez

Here we are again to talk to you about losing weight.

We have foods we call “comfort foods”, such as starchy carbs which make us drowsy or relaxed, while foods that are high in protein, can make us mentally alert when we are feeling tired, like fish, poultry and dairy products.

If we are overweight and we want to lose those extra pounds, we must question ourselves and find where our weak points are. Very possibly our overweight is due to excessive negative carbs, low protein and little, if any physical activity!

If we are serious about losing that weight, then we must take charge of our life, (it depends on our actions) and we must ask our self: Where is it that we are tempted to overeat or eat the wrong things? Is it at the movies, where we can eat that popcorn loaded with “butter”? Those Nachos with cheese?

At home in front of our TV? Or perhaps it is at work, where every day someone brings dough-nuts or perhaps a cake for a Birthday? Maybe you buy yours snacks from that Vending Machine with all those goodies.

When you have identified your weak spots, avoid them by taking with you a healthy fruit snack instead, even a low fat pretzel will work. Watch those fruits that are high in sugar content. Try snacks with nuts that are low in fat and sodium.

Avoid those fast food places where the food is loaded with saturated fats, sugars and carbs, while at the same time being very low in fiber and I wonder if you really want to know about the use of cattle body parts to make those hamburger patties. I could tell you about them and gross you out, but take my word for it, avoid those fast food burgers like you would avoid the plague! And if you have children, please don’t give it to them.

We as parents sometimes think that because our children are young, it’s OK to feed them whatever garbage they ask for. That is where we are supposed to come in to teach them about eating healthy foods.

In my experience I have seen parents having to take their children for a Lab-work only to find out that all those French fries, fried ripe bananas and other fried foods their children are eating, have caused them to develop very high cholesterol. Remember, just because they are young doesn’t mean they are immune to illness just as we are. Just because they are fat, does not mean they are healthy!

Let us set an example, pack up healthy lunches, not processed meats, such as ham, bologna etc. Processed foods are loaded with fats, sodium and nitrite to enhance color and extend the shelve life and that includes our beloved hot dogs.

Five Weight Loss Tips That Work for Women

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

By Gladys B Alvarez

We all know that if today we are at a svelte 110 Lbs, and (we think) that tomorrow we are weighing 140/150 Lbs, it was not because we were making the right food or nutrution choices. Here are some tips that should help you along that road to losing the extra pounds, provided you are really serious about doing so:

Tip # 1

Ladies, for some time now I have been encouraging you to pay careful attention to your health and the health of those who surround you. I have been educating you to the fact that any form of exercise, improves your health. That reading the labels on the packaging of the foods you are purchasing is very important. We have become a nation of obese people. We think that since we have plenty, we are obligated to consume it all, and we are doing an excellent job of it.

Tip # 2

Before you exercise, if you do it in the morning have a light snack, so you don’t run out of energy in the process. In the interim, if you do so in the afternoon, have yourself a small carb snack, one or two hours in advance. To help your muscles recoup after your exercise, have a combination of protein and carbs, but make that a small portion and above all, do not forget to drink a lot of water. Some of us claim not to like water, and do not drink and much water as we need; but there are natural enhancers to flavor your water, I like a few drops of lemon, if you go for commercial enhancers, read the labels for sugar content.

Tip # 3

Remember that with any luck, with the advance in scientific findings, the chances of our living to a ripe old age keep improving, but… we do not want to get old in an unhealthy body or mind. Among some of the advantages, is the fact that we can remain independent and not become a burden to anyone, to that respect, we need to keep both mind and body, active. Research says that Alzheimers can be caused by inheritance or it could be caused by the inactivity of our brains. We pray for a long life, so we can see our children and grandchildren grow, in that case, the best chance we have of getting there, is by being healthy, and by taking care of ourselves today.

Tip # 4

To those of you who have children, take a good look at them, don’t be blind to the fact that they may be overweight, it’s bad enough that school food is not exactly healthy, let us not contribute to that fact by feeding our kids processed foods, cereals and snacks full of sugar, and sandwiches with preserved meats that are loaded with chemicals. Researches claim that just one serving a day of any of the preserved meats that our children ingest, increases their chances toward developing, at a later point, any number of diseases that they should not acquire otherwise and could do very well without.

Tip # 5

Consequently, let us not be enablers, by buying them all the wrong treats and foods just because they want them; if we do that, we are also predisposing them to becoming diabetics or morbidly obese, and what about choking the heart with all that surrounding fat! There is hardly an internal organ that does not suffer when we are overweight or heavy. And last but not least, let us not forget the taunting our children undergo from the other children in school, the name calling, the humiliating feeling they get because they are heavy! Our kids are our most precious commodity; let us take good care of them! Good luck!

By Gladys Alvarez

Gaining weight not only affects your appearance, it also affects your self esteem, which in turn may cause depression, and other health problems. If you have tried to lose weight and have been successful at it, you know the great feeling of accomplishment, success, and confidence that comes with it. These are some of the reasons why a great number of people today are striving to lose the extra pounds.

People not only want to look good, but they also want to be healthy. We all know that being overweight can cause an innumerable amount of health issues, such as diabetes, heart problems, and hypertension just to name a few. When wanting to lose weight, we seldom go a doctor or a dietitian in order to obtain the proper techniques for rapid weight loss.

Before a physician suggests a technique for you to lose the extra pounds, he may suggest you have a physical and Lab work-up performed in order to determine where your weaknesses are. After consulting with him, you can begin the weight loss techniques by following whatever plan he draws for you.

There is no such thing as one diet to fit all who wish to lose weight. The unfailing rule is to determine what your caloric daily intake should be, based on your sex, height, weight and degree of physical activity.

Rapid weight loss can be obtained by reducing your caloric daily intake by 500 calories and increasing your activity level, as well as including a positive mindset. You must tell your brain, that losing weight is something that you CAN DO!

If you think that by skipping meals you will lose weight faster, you are wrong. All you are doing is sending your brain and body the message that you are going into starving mode, and your body will refuse to lose that weight. You will instead, lose muscle mass along with the few pounds you may lose. Stay away from fast foods, processed meats, sodas and sweets. Instead, eat meals that have a high fiber content such as vegetables, fruits and nuts, they will keep you fuller longer and hold off your cravings.

Remember, it is not only about losing the extra weight; it really is about changing our eating habits for healthier ones. Learn to like vegetables, fruits that not loaded with sugar and lower your salt intake. Don’t forget that the majority of the foods we buy are already overloaded with sodium and chemicals.

Use the variety of seasoning that is available. Follow an exercise program, whether it is walking, running, swimming, jogging or dancing if that is what you like to do.

Lately, a great number of people are following dancing programs in order to lose the weight and are being quite successful at it, because dancing is not only a fun but a great technique for burning calories and rapid weight loss. By the way, do not forget to stay hydrated.

Always follow a realistic plan. Do not over exert yourself, or you will lose interest and not be able to stick to your plan.

Don’t forget that the best way to keep your weight off is to make permanent changes to your life style and maintain a constant physical activity plan.

You Can Lose Stomach Fat In Your 50s If You Change Your Diet To Foods That Burn Fat

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

What are you eating these days? Are you still eating the same food that helped you grow that 50 year-old stomach? If you are, you are not going to lose stomach fat. Even if you are exercising, you are fighting a losing battle. If you do not start replacing the food you have always eaten with the food you should be eating, you will be taking two steps forward and one step backwards. In the end you could give up because you are making little or no progress.

There is a wide variety of everyday foods that burn fat and that will help you lose stomach fat. The foods that do this best are the ones high in protein or high in fiber because your body has to work harder to digest them. When we think of protein we tend to think of animal protein only, but there are many vegetables that contain both protein and fiber. Here are some of the foods that you should consider making part of your diet.

Animal protein:

*Meat is the most common form of protein. Try to select lean cuts of meat and to avoid processed meats. Products like ham rolls and chicken rolls are usually high in fat and have preservatives in them. Meats high in fat are not going to help your waistline or your heart. Look for lean beef, lamb, buffalo or poultry without the skin

*Eggs are a good source of protein. These are an easy food that can be eaten in a variety of ways. It only takes a few minutes to cook an egg. Even fried eggs are easy to cook and are healthy if they are done in olive oil

*Dairy products such as milk, yogurt and cheese are high in protein but can be high in fat. Select the low-fat variety

Vegetable Protein:

*Beans have a high percentage of protein, particularly soy beans, which have almost as much protein as meat. There are a number of soy products available that can supply you with protein – burgers, milk, ice cream, tofu. There are plenty of other beans that are readily available – lima beans, navy bean, red beans, kidney beans

*Vegetables – broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, potatoes, tomatoes

*Fruit – apples, oranges, bananas, peaches, pineapples

*Grains – barley, oatmeal, brown rice, wheat, millet

*Seeds and Nuts – almonds, cashews, walnuts, peanuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds

As you can see there are many foods that contain protein and fiber, and most of them are easily available. This is by no means the complete list because most fruit, vegetables, grains and seeds contain protein and fiber. They not only help you lose weight but provide essential nutrients for your well-being. If you have not started to include these in your diet to replace the foods you have always eaten, now is the time to start. If you do not change your diet you will not lose your stomach fat.

Weight Loss Advice That You Can Use To Shed Pounds

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Losing weight may seem like the hardest thing in the world, but the first step towards shedding those pounds is to educate yourself about weight loss. With so much information out there about losing weight, how do you know where to start? Here are a few tips on weight loss to get you started.

Control your portion – lose the weight! Do not eat your snacks right out of the box or bag. If you are going to have some potato chips as a snack, do not just grab the bag and go. You should put them into a small bag or bowl to keep you from gobbling them all up at once.

If you need to add exercise into your weight loss plan then give interactive video games a try. There are many gaming platforms that allow you to get up and do some action that will burn calories. There are also many different types of games available such as golf, sword fighting or kick boxing.

Have a practical list and a stopwatch when you go grocery shopping. This will help you to avoid unhealthy and unplanned items that won’t help you with your weight loss program!

If you’re struggling to eliminate your favorite treats, keep some of them on hand in small quantities. Low-fat ice cream treats or 100-calorie packs of cookies or salty snacks are great for this. This strategy will allow you to indulge occasionally while still keeping your calorie intake close to what you’re aiming for.

Easy Weight Loss

An easy weight loss suggestion is to simply eat slower. People start to feel full as they digest the food. It takes time for the body to signal the mind that it is satisfied. Set down the fork between each bite and savor the food. Eventually, the feeling of being full will emerge.

An easy weight loss tip is to buy red pepper flakes and use them in your breakfast or lunch. Research has shown that people that use red pepper early in the day eat less food later on. Spiced food is more enjoyable and satisfying than bland food also, so it helps your dining experience be pleasant.

Weight Loss

When thinking about losing weight the first thing you will want to do is prepare yourself mentally. While weight loss is a physical thing the actual work is mostly done within your mind. Before you start begin to prepare yourself for the changes that you are going to undertake in your life.

If you are tired of your weight-loss plan, maybe it is just because you are tired. Recent evidence shows that not getting enough rest on a regular basis could lead to weight gain. Getting a 20-30 minute nap during the day may be what you need. Maybe your brain is conveying that you are actually tired when you think you are hungry.

Lose Weight

If you’re going to be eating out, think about a Chinese or Japanese restaurant first. Asian food can be great for people who are trying to lose weight. The focus on vegetables, rice, and stir-fry dishes is great for low-fat diets, and there are few high-fat items to avoid.

In order to help you lose weight, try to eat three smaller meals and some healthy snacks in between. By doing this, you will be less hungry throughout the day and especially during meal time. This will help you from overeating during your meals and help lower you daily calorie intake.

So you see, losing weight isn’t impossible. Once you know how to get started, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you will start to drop those pounds. Like so many things in life, successful weight loss depends on knowing what you are doing and the techniques you have learned in this article, will help you start your journey.

I hope that I can help just one person to find some relief from there weight problem.

Ten Helpful Tips for Burning Fat While Losing Weight

Copyright © 2012 Jim Belden

One-third of all Americans are overweight, many of that number in the obese category. Being overweight affects the daily function of society, and it affects the health of each and everyone involved. This article provides advice on losing weight and eating healthy.

Green tea helps reduce hunger, and it is an essential tool to dieting. It also promotes fat burn, and it is a recommended drink along with your daily dose of water. Drink green tea regularly throughout your day, especially during the middle portion.

Eating at home instead of eating out consistently will help you reduce the amount of calories and fat you eat each day. When you eat at home, you know all of the ingredients, and you control portion sizes. Face the music! Who has ever heard of a regular restaurant serving appropriate portion sizes?

Developing an exercise routine helps you stay fit and build muscle. It keeps you healthy, and you are at less risk of various diseases. When eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly, you will look great and feel great.

Eating smaller meals throughout the day instead of larger meals helps maintain a consistent and proper digestion of your food, which means easier burning of fat and calories as well. Eat smaller meals, and eat them more frequently throughout the day, meaning eat six meals a day instead of three.

You should make sure you drink at least eight glasses of water each day. This ensures you stay hydrated. Water also helps flush out toxins, including excess fat.

Using a smaller plate will help you reduce portion sizes. Reducing portion sizes has already been stressed as important to the fat burning process.

Eating slowly allows your stomach to catch up to you. As this happens, your stomach can tell you that you are full. This also makes you enjoy your meal more, as you taste the richness and quality of the food you are eating.

Everyone loves their sweets, and you should have them occasionally. That being said, cut them out of your diet for the most part. The fat and sugars in these treats will haunt any balanced diet plan for years to come.

Sodas alone can create health issues and provide the amount of sugar intake in a day that you should have in a whole month. Drink healthier beverages. Just getting in the amount of water you should drink each day should help you reduce your soda intake. Add juices and other healthier beverages, and you should find leaving the soda behind a little easier.

Alcohol messes up many things when it comes to dieting, especially the ability to burn fat. While alcohol occasionally is fine, it does not fit well with diets whatsoever.

The advice in this article has been implemented by many people, and good results have ensued. While the same thing doesn’t work for everyone, you might find something that will work for you here. The tips here should definitely give you a good head-start in the right direction.
