To understand and appreciate fully what chiropractic is, we must first learn how these professionals came to be called Doctors of Chiropractic.

A 3 – 4 years undergraduate study is required before one can enroll to a chiropractic course. The course itself takes 4 years where the students are trained to make a diagnosis and manage musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders. However, the practitioner needs to have a license issued by the country where he plans to practice his profession. Naturally, an examination will evaluate if he is capable of getting a license and therefore to carry out his craft.

A chiropractor who wanted to practice in the United States must pass the National Board of Chiropractic Examiner’s exams before the state recognizes his qualification. Apart from finishing a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from a qualified institution and passing the examination, he must likewise complete continuing education programs every year.

America recognizes the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) as the sole organization in charge of certifying programs and institutions that confers the Doctor of Chiropractic degree.

A chiropractic student learns the basics in science during the initial two years of the program. This includes human pathology and microbiology, anatomy and physiology,. During the last 2 years, the course focuses on lessons in diagnosis and management methods, orthopedics, neurology, physiological therapy, nutrition, pediatrics, geriatrics and rehabilitation. They get to have a practicum on their last year where they treat actual patients with a chiropractor supervising them.

They get to have a license and earn the title Doctor of Chiropractic (DC), after passing the exams and other requirements. They are also called chiropractor or chiropractic physician. Their patients range from babies, toddler, children and adults of both sexes. Chiropractic does not believe in surgical intervention to treat a disease except for manual manipulation.

There are also subspecialties offered by the different chiropractic schools. These institutions offer ongoing educational courses in various areas permitting the chiropractor to be skilled in a particular field. The different specialties are orthopedics, rehabilitation, sports medicine, neurology, industrial and occupational health, diagnostic imaging, pediatrics, internal disorders, forensic sciences and nutrition.

A consultation with a chiropractor is the same as that of seeing our family doctor. Your medical history (past and present) will be taken followed by a physical examination. Other necessary procedures may be requested if necessary to arrive at a proper diagnosis. This can include laboratory tests, diagnostic procedures, orthopedic and neurological exams.

When all the necessary information is obtained, the chiropractor will discuss the treatment scheme with the patient. They may also refer patients who by their evaluation are not covered by their expertise. Chiropractors usually co-managed patients with other doctors.

it may surprise you to hear from your chiropractor that you do not need an operation, If you are new in the field of chiropractic care. This is because chiropractic care is purely manual adjustment. Chiropractic emphasizes on healing the whole body system to restore and maintain the general health status of patients. Chiropractic care may also involve physical therapy, and patient is likewise advised to have a healthy diet and in modifying his way of life.

Persons involved in sports as well as doctors do know that pain-killing medicines are not the solution to this problem. It is just a temporary remedy, which could worsen the injury when the athlete is at play. Chiropractors do understand the needs of these athletes better than any health professional. Chiropractic physicians treat an individual like one interconnected being with focus on mechanical systems that hold the body together such as the spine, muscles, joints and nerves. Famous sportsmen with the likes of Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Muhammad Ali had used chiropractic care while at the peak of their respective careers. Chiropractic medicine had played an important part in Olympic Games and other national sporting events. Even the National Football League has integrated chiropractic as a standard part of their fitness regimen.

Chiropractic Defined

Chiropractic is a form of medical healing based on the principle that illnesses are the result of nerve disorders. When the nervous system has a problem such as dislocated spine, organs of the body may be affected and not function correctly. Proper diagnosis of these disorders and the appropriate spinal treatment will eliminate nerve intrusion, which in turn will enable the spine and affected organs to regain health once more. In order to be a chiropractor, one must go through a four years post-study course in which chiropractic diagnosis, neurologic, orthopedic, and chiropractic care are taught.

The illnesses that can be treated with chiropractic care

The main area of concern in chiropractic care is the spine. Chiropractic physicians can treat all injuries involving the ankle, elbow, shoulder, hip, joints and muscles. Spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustment is the primary technique used in treating these kinds of disorder wherein the spine is adjusted to restore its correct position thus re-establishing the original nerve transmission that will eventually lead to healing the vital organs of the body. Chiropractic care also include therapeutic massage, work out, and nutritional supplements depending on the condition of the person seeking the treatment.

The advantage of chiropractic is that it is drug-free and does not require the patient to undergo a surgical procedure. Preventive and performance enhancing methods are all part of a complete chiropractic care.

A lot of great athletes get a “tune-up” from professional chiropractors before their game to ensure peak performance while playing. They also get another round of chiropractic treatment after the game to relieve stress and improve the recuperative process of the body, preparing them for the next important game.

This describes why sports people prefer to have chiropractic care. Don’t you think it is about time that you get to see a chiropractor for your pains?
