Ways to help stop Binge Eating
Monday, November 30th, 2009Binge eating is not seen as a particularly serious issue despite the fact that it affects so many people. This is because people generally do not understand it and why sufferers don’t just stop eating. For the sufferers, due to this general perception, it tends to be brushed under the Carpet Denver and ignored due to embarrassment. However, to stop binge eating, sufferers need to recognise it as a problem first before they can hope to treat it.
Binge eating is most certainly a serious problem and not only does it affect people’s physical state, but also it has roots in their mental state. People begin to eat like this as they see it as their drug to help them to ignore feelings or depression, much like the way other turn to drugs or alcohol.
Sufferers will commonly eat vast quantities until they feel sick or gorge themselves when they are not even hungry. Not only does this conjure further feelings or guilt and depression, but it can also lead to very serious conditions such as heart problems due to obesity.
People will also find that putting on weight in this way has a negative affect on their appearance and their self esteem and confidence will be lowered further. All of these issues combined can have a devastating affect on someones life.
It is therefore important to take positive steps. Unfortunately, sufferers often find it very hard dieting as they find that failure of dieting to be often worse that the issues they already carry. In a depressed state, dieting can be very difficult. Equally getting exercise is a very positive step as it helps the body to release chemicals that are similar to the effects of an anti-depressant.
The best thing to do is to get support and talk to people. Family and friends will be only too keen to help you if you only admit you have a problem and are not too ashamed. However, if you seek privacy, then support groups are a great way to find those who have gone through the same experiences as yourself.
